A Massachusetts native, I have been busy drawing and painting since my early childhood. By age 16 I was exhibiting and in 1979 I graduated form the University of Massachusetts where I studied Education and Art History. As a self-taught artist, I followed my own path, studying both nature and the works of a variety of masters. I was particularly influenced by the French Barbizon painters, American Tonalists, the Impressionist movement and various American Regional schools from the early to mid 1900's. My primary focus has been the landscape and much of my inspiration comes from my immediate environs in Vermont, New York and his travels in Europe. though some of my paintings depict recognizable locations, many simply capture a sense of a place. I feel this gives my paintings a wide universal appeal. My interest in landscape is also a vehicle for exploration and expression of light, tonal qualities, and abstract form. fro me, the painting often expresses itself on two levels; the literal and the non-literal. I have exhibited widely in galleries, groups shows
and one man exhibitions. I have recently completed two - five month
journeys in Europe, living and painting in various locales. I have
had twelve one man shows and have won numerous awards. I am a member
of Gloucester's North Shore Arts Association, Northern Vermont Art
Association, Southern Vermont Art Center, and a former member of
Boston's Copley Society. I am listed in Marquis Who's Who in America,
and my work has been collected by art lovers in the U.S, Canada,
and numerous European countries. |
