Chloe Kettlewell Painter
Saratoga Springs, New
York
I
have always known that I would have a career in the arts and, in
fact, I have had several. I grew up in Saratoga Springs in an artistic
family. My mother, Lucy Cadou was a professional painter and my
father, James Kettlewell, an art history professor, museum curator,
writer and art critic. Our home was full of museum quality artwork
and antiques. I learned to paint and draw in the same way I learned
to walk and talk. After studying acting at Boston University I
finished my undergraduate degree at Skidmore College in Studio Art.
After graduating I worked at Peeble’s Island in Cohoes, New York,
a facility that cares for and restores the artwork of New York State’s
historic sites. At the same time I created hand painted eggs which
I exhibited at Dayspring Gallery in Saratoga and several other locations,
including the Wadsworth Athenaeum Gift Shop in Hartford, Connecticut.
I also created still life pastel drawings which I exhibited at The
Gallery in Glens Falls, New York.
When my children were born, I began restoring frames and paintings
at home. I also began a series of large charcoal drawing and paintings
of nude women which I exhibited at the LuLu gallery in Albany,
New York.
In 1998 I began a series of nudes in interiors which were included
in a group show at the Saratoga County Arts Council, one of which
was selected for a juried exhibition at the Arnot Art Museum in
Elmira, New York. In the year 2000, I became part owner of Framework,
a custom art and framing gallery in Saratoga Springs. I had always
wanted to go back to school, however, so the following year I
sold my interest in the shop, enrolled at the College of St. Rose
and continued to frame part-time at Framework.
I
have completed my Masters in Art Education and am a certified
art teacher. I was a substitute teacher in local schools for three
years and am now an adjunct art teacher at St. Rose and will also
be teaching drawing and painting in Skidmore’s Summer Six program.
In
addition to my exhibit of oil paintings of domestic interiors,
equine paintings, and nude miniatures, at Framework, I was also
in a two-person show at the Saratoga County Arts Council in May,
2006. In January, 2007 I had my first solo exhibition at the Lake
George Arts Project. This coming June, I will be in a group show
at the Kirkland Arts Council in Clinton, New York.
